The Royal Society of Chemistry is the UK’s professional body for chemical scientists and the world’s leading chemistry community. We are a prestigious not-for-profit publishing and knowledge business, educating future generations of scientists, for the benefit of science and humanity.

As Commissioning Editor, you will work within our Books Commissioning team on the lifecycle of chemical science books from concept through to publication. You will commission book titles in the chemical sciences in accordance with our strategic plans, working closely with authors, editors and reviewers, assess projects for publication and ensure that these are marketed effectively to end users.

We are looking for:

  • Experience of commissioning and acquiring content.
  • A good honours degree in science (chemical science normally preferred) or relevant STM publishing experience is essential.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills with proven ability to work in a team.
  • Previous experience of working with Editorial Boards and contacts in the community.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and be responsible for own workload.
  • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally.

This is a full time, position where occasional working from home and flexible start and finish times may be accommodated, subject to business needs.

At the Royal Society of Chemistry, we will support you in your career and reward your contribution with an excellent benefits package: http://www.rsc.org/about-us/work-for-us/#benefits.
