The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) seeks a Science Executive to support a range of Science activities on a permanent full-time basis. You will work with colleagues across departments and liaise with external stakeholders to advance excellence in the chemical sciences within the UK, at a European level and more globally in support of the RSC’s strategy.

Our Science Team leads our policy and advocacy activities, our programmes for researchers and our science community networks. As Science Executive, you will support a range of Science Team activities, with a particular focus on managing our Prizes and Awards Programme and supporting our Divisions. Specific elements of your role will include responsibility for the nomination and selection processes for our prize and award winners, and working with colleagues across the organisation to celebrate our winners through events as well as media and other communications. You will also support our programme managers and Divisions in their Division Council meetings and their community events and grants schemes.

You will be based at our Cambridge Science Park office which has free onsite parking and is close to public transport. Flexibility around start and finish times and some working from home is possible where feasible, within a 35-hour working week. Occasional travel within the UK and internationally will be required, to support the delivery of science programmes and objectives.

We are looking for:

Essential:

  • Background in science and/or science programme management and administration.
  • Strong project and time management skills.
  • Ability to deliver multiple projects in parallel and involving internal and external stakeholders.
  • Customer focussed approach with excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrable ability to work both as part of multifunctional teams and independently.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Good IT skills and abilities.

Desirable:

  • Background in or awareness of aspects of the research and innovation environment (e.g. research funding, higher education reform, public engagement with science, science and the economy).
  • Experience interacting with people at a variety of levels in different sectors.
