We are now looking for a Research Scientist to join our Exposure Measurement Portfolio, working within the Biological Monitoring Team on a permanent, full-time basis.

The Role

As a Research Scientist, you will undertake a range of analytical laboratory work to prevent death, injury and ill-health in the workplace.

Specifically, you’ll analyse human biological samples for biomarkers of chemical exposure, including urine, blood, breath and other matrices. You will focus on metabolites of organic chemical exposures, using relevant analytical techniques including gas and liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry.

You’ll also undertake sample preparation, analysis and results reporting and routine maintenance and method development, as well as contributing to research projects for both HSE and commercial customers.

Additionally, you will:

- Identify where improvements in efficiency and quality could be made to standardised analytical services
- Implement instrument maintenance and method improvements
- Keep up to date with developments in the scientific community

About You

To be considered as a Research Scientist, you will need:

- Relevant practical experience of laboratory-based analysis and/or research in the field of analytical toxicology or analytical chemistry
- Relevant technical expertise in using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography analysers (preferably mass spectrometry), including experience of method development or improvement
- Experience of developing projects from initial idea to final delivery
- Experience of collating, managing, analysing and interpreting data
- The ability to troubleshoot instrument and method issues
- The ability to present research findings and data to a wide and varied audience
