Job Details
R&D Chemist required, based in Manchester. Requiring a degree (BSc, MChem) in Chemistry with some experience in organic synthesis at lab and/or pilot scale. Candidates who have recently completed a PhD in Synthetic Chemistry are also encouraged to apply.

SRG are working with an innovative company who create and develop speciality chemical products and intermediates, which are used in downstream industries including plastics, cosmetics and security printing. They are now looking for an R&D Chemist to join the lab team at their site in Manchester. This role will see the successful individual planning and undertaking multi-step synthetic reactions in the lab, to manufacture speciality chemical products ranging from gram to kilogram scales. This would be a brilliant opportunity for a Chemistry graduate who has some industrial experience of organic synthetic methods and processes, as well as candidates that have recently completed a PhD in synthetic chemistry and are now looking to transfer to industry.

Role / Description
- Performing practical synthetic reactions and prepare intermediates and final products on a large laboratory scale
- Conducting practical work to improve existing processes and yields
- Responding to reaction problems or unexpected results in good time and using problem-solving skills to resolve issues
- Assisting in the running of the R&D laboratory and general housekeeping, stock upkeep and waste disposal
- Keeping records and writing reports of practical work
- Participating in relevant R&D and commercial meetings as and when required to meet business goals
Requirements
- Minimum degree in Chemistry
- Recent PhD candidates encouraged to apply
- Hands-on, industrial experience of organic synthesis at laboratory or pilot scale
- Self-motivated and good work ethic
- Enthusiastic and keen to progress learning in organic synthetic chemistry
