Salary: Up to £33,000 per annum

SRG are working with a leading waste management and recycling company who have a long and successful history of supporting the UK chemical industry. They are now looking for a Transfer Station Senior Chemist to join the team in the West Midlands. The successful candidate will proactively co-ordinate and supervise receipt, storage, processing and disposal of incoming wastes through a hazardous waste transfer facility. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Site Chemist looking for the next step in the career and a clear pathway for progression within the waste industry.

Accountabilities
  • Supervise, plan and prioritise the day-to-day activities of the Transfer Station Chemists, adapting when necessary to meet fluctuations in daily service level to deliver efficient, safe and compliant operations.
  • Visually Lead and improve the health, safety and environmental culture.
  • Ensure security of waste entering the facility and disposal in line with company policy and any stated customer requirement, at minimised cost.
  • Ensure inputs and outputs meet defined standards e.g. PPC, discharge consent, pre-acceptance, acceptance and onward transfer caveats, whilst driving best practice and continuous improvement in cost control and processing operations.
  • Responsible for the performance management of the Plant Chemist team including training, reviews, coaching, attendance and any other HR issues.
  • Carry out regular stock control and inventory of materials, both waste and consumables held on site, to deliver compliant operational requirements within budgeted costs.
  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping in all areas and ensure any housekeeping activities are carried out in an effective and timely manner.
  • Implement and ensure compliance with all company policy, process and procedures.
  • Deliver a compliant operation with respect to the Site Permit and Environment Agency Regulations.
  • Work closely alongside Transport function to proactively manage inputs and outputs to manage compliance and achieve customer SLA.


Requirements
  • Min HNC Chemistry qualification- proficient in laboratory analytical techniques and interpretation
  • Experience as a supervisor or position similar responsibility in a hazardous waste management business or chemical industry desired.
  • Implementation methods and procedures to meet Quality Management System requirements.
  • Knowledge & understanding of the requirements of working within a time critical hazardous waste processing environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of chemical process safety.
  • Hazardous waste industry knowledge including existing and impending environmental and health and safety legislation.
  • Analytical with the ability to measure & monitor data and take appropriate action.
  • Experience dealing with external and internal stakeholders.
