The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) has a great opportunity for a Programme Manager (Public Engagement and Outreach) to join us on a permanent basis.
At the RSC we embrace flexibility and offer hybrid working, which means our teams come together when they need to collaborate. Although this role is contractually based at our Cambridge or London office, you will also be able to work from home within the UK, with the expectation that you will attend our offices and travel as needed for your role. In this role you will attend our Cambridge and London offices 2 - 3 days per month on a regular basis (initially more frequently to support your induction). As a Public Engagement and Outreach Programme Manager for the RSC, you will play a crucial role in embedding our public engagement and outreach approach and ambitions. You will lead on the development and implementation of initiatives and approaches aligned with sector best practice and priorities in education, inclusion and diversity, policy, influence, and membership. You will work closely with colleagues, members, the chemistry community, sector experts and in partnership with external stakeholders to make recommendations, implement plans and deliver a scalable, sustainable and impactful programme within resource and budget limitations, with direct responsibility for a budget of approximately £100k and advisory input into wider public engagement and outreach budgets.
What we are looking for:
- A relevant qualification (degree or professional qualification).
- Credibility, knowledge, and experience applicable to public engagement, with expertise in evidence-based approaches that successfully engage under-represented audiences.
- Experience managing and developing partnerships and leading multi-stakeholder programmes, balancing and negotiating commitments and priorities across multiple projects.
- A highly effective collaborator and facilitator who is able to work with colleagues in a wide variety of contexts and deliver results, taking into account the widest needs of the organisation and its audiences.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with a variety of audiences and influence people across career stage, levels and sectors.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team in a matrix environment, including leading without authority and developing new ideas and approaches.
