Salary: £33,770 - £42,000 (dependant on suitability and level of experience) + Allowances

Working within the Explosives Physical Characterisation (XPC) Team within the Materials and Analytical Sciences (MAS) Sub-Function, you'll primarily be supporting our Explosive Powder Hazard, Charge Safety and Physical Characterisation capabilities.



We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with knowledge and/or experience of working in a hands-on experimental environment.



It is desirable that candidates can demonstrate a good understanding / experience with some/all of the following:
  • Working with hazardous materials
  • Degree in scientific or STEM subject or equivalent work experience
  • Explosive Powder Hazard Testing (e.g. friction, impact, thermal, ESD) and Explosive Charge Safety Testing
  • Test design and incorporation of additional potential diagnostics, e.g. high speed video, blast gauges, acoustic monitoring, gas sensing etc.
  • Powder characterisation, e.g. particle size, density, surface area, optical microscopy, SEM
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting




Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities will include:
  • To provide technical knowledge and expertise in the field of materials and chemical science
  • To deliver assigned programmes, projects and processes, to the required scope, timescales, quality and cost
  • Analyse, characterise and assess samples using agreed analytical procedures and processes
  • Identify and rectify problems in analyses and processes, and/or know when to seek assistance where needed in rectifying them
  • Act as a representative in all relevant internal and external interactions
  • Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a great team player
  • May be required to carry out safety related roles including but not limited to Work Supervisory Officer; COSHH Assessor; Risk Assessor; Manual Handling Assessor; Radiation Protection Supervisor
  • The Company may require you to fulfil any other reasonable duties aligned to your position from time to time in line with business needs
