We are currently looking to recruit Several Laboratory Analysts to work in our Analytical Services team. Sellafield Ltd Analytical Services facility was established in 1952 to provide an essential on-site capability for the chemical analysis of highly radioactive and toxic materials. It is one of the oldest buildings on site and houses over 90 separate laboratories. We analyse around 100,000 samples annually on a variety of radioactive sample types in different chemical forms including effluents, Plutonium products and complex wastes. Analysis is undertaken using a variety of specialised instruments on benches, in fume hoods and gloveboxes, or in highly active cells, dependent on the activity and type of material being analysed. The Analytical Services facility is considered essential to support operations, waste processing and hazard/risk reduction activities across the site.

About the role:

Your day-to-day duties will include but not limited to carrying out a range of analytical techniques on samples across the Sellafield site from simple wet chemical techniques to complex instrumentation including spectroscopy, chromatography and radiometric techniques. All training will be provided in both controlled area working and standard laboratory operations.

To thrive in the role, you will need:

• Qualified to HNC/HND level, or equivalent, in Chemistry or a science related subject.

• Ability to work both as part of a team and individually.

• Good IT skills.

• Ability to work well under pressure and to be able to meet tight deadlines.

• Ability to work within a controlled area.

• Previous experience in a laboratory environment.

• Hold or have the ability to gain SC clearance.

You may also have:

• Qualified to degree level, or equivalent, in Chemistry or a science related subject.

• Problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

• Previous experience working in radiologically controlled environments.

• Knowledge and experience of quality management systems.

• Membership of relevant professional body.
