The University of Innsbruck invites applications for the position of University Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Department of Pharmacy at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy.

It is a position in accordance with § 98 of the Austrian Universities’ Act (Universitätsgesetz - UG) and will be based on a civil-law employment contract with the University on the basis of the Salaried Employees Act (Angestelltengesetz). The contract will be concluded for an unlimited period; the extent of employment is 100%.

Responsibilities include

The chair-holder is to represent the subject of “Pharmaceutical & Medicinal Chemistry” both in research and teaching. The research foci should be dedicated to innovative research topics using modern research approaches and methods that take into account the demands of future-oriented drug research.

 The research activities of the professorship shall compliment the research foci at the Institute of Pharmacy (Faculty of Pharmacy and Chemistry) and the Michael Popp Institute and contribute to existing university-intern priority programs. These exemplarily include research on new drug targets in the field of neuronal (pain, retina, neuropsychiatric, genetic diseases) and endocrine regulation (diabetes mellitus); identification of biogenic small molecules, regulation of inflammatory, metabolic and cytotoxic signalling pathways by drug candidates, development of innovative methods for drug delivery, computer-assisted drug discovery and therapy development, as well as design and synthesis of new lead structures. Close collaborations exist with the “Center for Molecular Biosciences (CMBI)” and “Scientific Computing” as well as the research platform “Material and Nanosciences”. Further there is a close connection to the field of neuroscience (stem cell research), metabolomics and proteomics, computational chemistry, molecular dynamic simulations as well as the development and design of new biomedical agents.

In teaching, the future professor needs to cover the subject area of Pharmaceutical Chemistry represented in its full breadth across all three levels of the Bologna System (B.A., M.A., PhD) in the relevant courses of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy.

Personal involvement in academic administration and self-governance as well as in the department’s and faculty’s working groups will form another essential duty.

Employment Requirements include

a degree in higher education in Austria or the equivalent abroad, pertinent to the position; pertinent habilitation or comparable qualification (e.g. senior lecturer, associate professor); publications in leading international peer-reviewed academic journals; proven competence in pharmaceutical/medicinal chemistry; evidence of involvement in international research; interdisciplinary work in the fields of health, chemical and life sciences; relevant international experience; experience in acquiring and managing external research funds; pronounced teaching skills; evidence of successfully managing a third-party funded research group; the ability to teach in the German and English language;

In line with the Collective Bargaining Agreement professors are in remuneration group A 1, i.e., for a full-term professorship the basic salary is 5.826,50 Euro (14 times).
