Job Details

This summer, Cambridge Zero and the Centre for Landscape Regeneration at the University of Cambridge are offering paid project assistant positions to undergraduates and recent graduates. These roles present an opportunity to get involved at a critical time for climate and environmental issues globally. Project assistants will be given the opportunity to gain experience of working on current research in climate change, biodiversity and environmental science in an impactful way.  You will also gain experience of lab and fieldwork, working alongside researchers from a range of disciplines.

Projects available include:

  • investigating the effect of chemical additives on the production and consumption of greenhouse gases by fenland peat soils
  • using fluorescent dyes to determine the abundance of fungi and bacteria in soils as the drivers of peat degradation
  • surveying habitats for pollinators and earthworms in the Cambridgeshire Fens

These project assistantships are funded in line with the NERC Diversity and Inclusion Living Action Plan to improve diversity and inclusion in environmental sciences, so we would particularly welcome applications from those from under-represented backgrounds.

The Future Leaders Programme runs for 8 weeks, from 17 July to 15 September 2023, and are paid the Cambridge Real Living Wage, at a rate of £10.90ph.

All applicants are legally required to demonstrate the right to work/permission to work in the UK.

Closing date: 9am on Monday 27 March 2023.
