Job Details

  • Permanent and full-time (35-hour week)
  • Hybrid Cambridge, London and remote home working within the UK.

The Royal Society of Chemistry has an exciting opportunity for an events specialist to support our members.

Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is a not-for-profit organisation with a thriving international community of over 48,000 members in 125 countries. We are an internationally renowned publisher of high quality chemical science knowledge and the professional body for chemists in the UK, with a reputation as an influential champion for the chemical sciences. We reinvest all of our income to achieve our charitable objectives in support of the chemical sciences community and advancing chemistry.

Our global community spans hundreds of thousands of scientists, librarians, teachers, students, pupils and people who love chemistry.  We connect our community by holding scientific conferences, symposia, workshops and webinars and we partner globally for the benefit of the chemical sciences.

Our Member Networks are an important part of our community with over 120 geographical and subject based committees, involving 1500 volunteers, who typically organise in excess of 400 events per year for their peers, reaching a global audience of over 30,000 people.

As our Member Networks Events Specialist you will work within our Member Networks Team, with a dotted reporting line to the Events Team, to provide support and guidance to these member-led groups with their events planning and management to help them engage audiences across the full diversity of the chemical sciences across many countries. The size and scope of events run by our Member Networks is diverse, from international scientific conferences to local networking events for retired members, with an annual turnover in excess of £1m.

We are looking for:

  • Specialist knowledge in events management, including online and hybrid events.
  • Excellent experience in a customer-focused environment, ideally in the membership sector; experience of volunteer management would be an advantage.
  • An understanding of the importance of events, conferences and networks to scientific communities.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills; is experienced in stakeholder management. Can communicate challenging messages with tact and diplomacy.

The contractual base for this role is our Cambridge office where the team is based, however we are currently embracing hybrid working, and therefore you will have the opportunity to also work from a UK location other than this, as agreed with your line manager. There is an expectation that employees will attend the offices as needed for their role. This role will require attendance at our Cambridge and London offices (on average 1-2 days per week) and at some out of hours events.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please apply before the end of our closing date.
