CK Group are recruiting for a Research and Development Chemist to join a polymer manufacturing company at their site based near Blackpool on a full time, permanent basis.

The Company:
Our client manufactures polymers for use in a wide variety of industry sectors from chemical additives to medical devices to personal care and beauty and more. They have multiple sites within the UK and abroad, and the customers include both start-ups and multinational companies. ISO9001 and 13485 accredited, they are now recruiting for an R&D Chemist to join their expanding team. Applications from Junior R&D Chemists (£22,000-£24,000pa) and Senior R&D Chemists (£24,000-£28,000pa) will both be considered. The company offers 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays, pension, life assurance, healthcare, bonus, gym membership.

Location:
The Development Chemist will be based at the company's site near Blackpool, easily commutable from Preston, Lytham, Fleetwood, Lancaster, Wigan, Blackburn and other surrounding areas.

R&D Chemist Role:
Your main duties will be:
  • Product Development
  • Work on product improvement in the laboratory and set up and run lab experiments to test and develop products
  • Prepare full and detailed analyses of the laboratory work for customer review
  • Work on specialist products for specified customers to produce small amounts of product through laboratory
  • Organize and document samples sent to prospective and existing customers
  • Quality Assurance including sampling and testing all raw materials used and the product through all stages of the production process
  • Input test data to the Laboratory file and to the computer testing program and generate internal test reports on all tests completed
  • Control and monitor stocks of chemicals, consumables and equipment needed
  • Calibrate critical instruments in rotation
  • Carry out internal quality audits to ISO 9001 and ISO13485

Your Background:
The ideal candidate for this role will have the following skills and experience:
  • Qualified to HND/ BSc Degree level or equivalent in Chemistry or a related discipline, ideally with some industry experience however full training can be provided (Junior R&D Chemist)
  • Qualified to MSc Degree level or equivalent in Chemistry or a related discipline with proven industrial experience gained in an R&D Chemist role with similar products (Senior R&D Chemist)e
  • Experience in working with acrylic polymers would be an advantage
  • Hands on experience gained with HPLC, FTIR, GC would be beneficial
  • Happy to travel with work
