Job Details
We’re looking for a versatile researcher and leader with an extensive background in separation and purification chemistry to join our team. Chip[s] Board produces organic acids from sustainable waste-derived products. This role is an opportunity to lead novel product development, purification technologies and lab-based research focused on pushing our product to commercial realisation. This role will focus on the R&D of separation of fermentation broth.
We are looking for an experienced professional to apply for this opportunity to work in an energetic start-up and play a vital role in the development of new sustainable chemicals and materials. A background in chemistry, organic chemistry or green chemistry is essential. Ongoing training is provided where necessary.
Responsibilities
- The primary focus is the separation of organic acids from fermentation broth using separation and green chemistry methodologies
- Apply analytical methods to evaluate the composition of fermentation broths and efficiency of separation methods
- Improve production efficiency, decrease costs, increase yields etc
- Design and carry out experimental projects focused on separation of organic acids from broth to reach data-driven conclusions
- Characterise separation efficiency and optimise production throughputs at varying scales
- Lead innovation in separation and green chemistry under the guidance of the CTO
- Collaborate with the separation and other R&D teams to innovate
- Coordinate with the team in planning experiments and conduct experiments independently
- Communicate the progress and data analysis in the form of technical reports to individuals with both technical and non-technical backgrounds
- Maintain lab safety and follow safety guidance in the lab and pilot plant
Requirements
- A master’s degree and/or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. Chemistry, Green Chemistry or Organic Chemistry) is required for this position
- Extensive practical experience in separation methodologies are required
- Significant research and industrial experience is essential
- Experience in leading a small team of researchers is preferred
The ideal candidate
- Extensive lab and/or industrial experience of multiple industrial separation techniques
- Well-developed independent research skills including statistical analysis and experimental design
- Experience and practical understanding of separation processes
- Knowledge of analytical techniques (spectrophotometry – OD600, HPLC, ICP-MS/OES)
- Great interpersonal skills and leadership
- Desire to work with a multidisciplinary team in a constructive collaborative nature
- Ability to work in a fast-paced start-up environment while managing multiple tasks simultaneously
- Practical written and oral communication skills
