An essential duty of the position involves the provision of safe and effective technical support within a designated laboratory space or subject. The ability to provide support within other College disciplines associated with Chemical Engineering is desirable; training needs and support will be provided to accommodate flexibility within the role. Growth within the role will enable interesting opportunities to engage with a variety of experimental practical work, prototyping and fabrication. In addition, the post will allow support for research based around contemporary themes: Materials for Sustainable Futures; Digital Process Engineering; Bioprocessing and Biopharmaceutical Engineering; Emerging Energy Technology.
Accountabilities include:
- Preparation and support of taught laboratory sessions (includes academic liaison)
- Support for student and research-based projects.
- Supervision of laboratory, ensuring day-to-day aspects of security and health and safety. This includes delivery of inductions for new users and ensuring all work is appropriately risk assessed.
- Procurement of items for laboratory in line with University procurement procedures, including equipment, consumables and project-specific items.
- Proactive maintenance and development of laboratory area to comply with standards of health and safety inspections, statutory checks and the standards provided by student feedback.
- Maintenance of health and safety laboratory records to comply with College Health and Safety policy
