We are currently looking for a Principal Downstream Process Development to join a growing AAV Gene Therapy Biotechnology company based in the North London area. As the Principal Downstream Process Development you will be responsible for driving and managing the downstream process development activities including but not limited to Primary Recovery, Chromatography, Diafiltration and viral inactivation.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Downstream Processing Scientists with a Viral Vector or Recombinant Protein background who has previous industry experience, to join a developing Biotech at the start of their Process Development journey.

You will have the opportunity to develop processes from scratch as well as train, develop and lead a team of Downstream development scientists. You will work closely with the rest of the CMC team as well as R&D teams.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your duties as the Principal Downstream Process Development will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. Lead the Downstream Process Development and optimisation for the purification AAV Viral Vectors.

2. Be responsible for the design and execution of development work including writing process descriptions, protocols and experimental procedures.

3. Lead the Technical Transfer to external manufacturers and play a role in implementing and managing a secure supply chain for key GMP materials to support clinical manufacture.

4. As the team grows, act as Downstream Group Leader and ensure the training and development of junior staff members.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Principal Downstream Process Development we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. Relevant degree in a Life Sciences discipline where a PhD is desired but not required. This is in addition to extensive industry experience of downstream process development for Biological products, ideally Viral Vectors.

2. Proven industry experience in the development of scalable downstream chromatography-based manufacturing processes where you have an awareness of GMP regulations and requirements.

3. A working knowledge and practical experience with leading / supporting a team is beneficial as well as previous experience with managing CDMOs and supply chain.
