Laboratory Technologist

Location: Reading area

Package: £33,300 - £45,000 (dependant on suitability and level of experience)

The role has three key parts:

  • Support the management of several radiochemistry laboratories and act as a key interface between multiple stakeholders

  • Support laboratory processes by performing analytical chemistry techniques

  • Act as an enabler through supporting the maintenance of key documentation

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Undertake laboratory management and represent the team at key deconfliction meetings, ensuring processes can operate through laboratory maintenance

  • Ensure the highest level of environment, health, safety and quality (ESH&Q) is maintained within the laboratory

  • Perform dissolution techniques and column chemistry on radioactive samples, including glovebox operations

  • Support improvement activities within the laboratories

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with knowledge and/or experience of managing a lab environment. It is desirable that candidates can demonstrate at least a basic understanding / experience of the following:

  • Working and processing radioactive materials

  • Managing laboratories and/or facilities

  • Good laboratory practices, including document and laboratory quality

  • Working within a glovebox

  • Problem solving and troubleshooting

The role will likely include taking on a number of additional roles for which full training will be required. This is likely to include:

  • Authorised Source Inventory Holder

  • LEV supervisor

  • Risk / COSHH Assessor

  • Chemical Store Inventory Holder

Personal attributes should include:

  • Good communication skills, verbal and written

  • Ability to work with others collaboratively

  • Enthusiastic, positive, proactive, have a flexible attitude and able to take the initiative

  • Good laboratory skills with an ability to deliver consistent results

  • Appreciating the need for quality and compliance

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to work within radioactive laboratories.
