Job Details

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) seeks a Programme Officer, Science to join us on a temporary basis until the end of January 2023.

The Royal Society of Chemistry is an internationally renowned publisher of high quality chemical science knowledge and the professional body for chemists in the UK, with a thriving international community of over 48,000 members in 125 countries and over 550 staff. As a not-for-profit organisation, we reinvest all of our income to achieve our charitable objectives to support the chemical sciences community and advance chemistry.

We have strong links with the people teaching and practising chemistry in schools, colleges, universities and industry. We are the biggest non-governmental investor in chemistry education in the UK, we accredit over 95 per cent of chemistry degrees in the UK and Ireland, we support over 300 small and medium sized companies in the chemical sciences, and we are a powerful advocate for the chemical sciences at the government level influencing science, education and innovation policy.

As a Programme Officer for the Royal Society of Chemistry, you will play a crucial role in providing support to our Science Communities (formally known as RSC Science Divisions) and to Heads of Chemistry UK. You will work closely with programme specialists in the team to continually improve the support we provide to our Science Communities, as well as enhance the links between them and the impact of their activities. You will also work in partnership with colleagues in our Awards & Grants and Conferences Development teams to ensure effective and impactful links with our Science Communities.

In line with our 2021-25 strategy, this is an exciting opportunity to support our community as they advance knowledge and collaborate in a changing world.

We are looking for:

Essential:

  • Science degree or equivalent.
  • Strong project and time management skills.
  • Ability to deliver multiple projects in parallel and involving internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrable ability to work both as part of multifunctional teams and independently.
  • Good IT skills and abilities.

Desirable:

  • Experience interacting with people at a variety of levels in different sectors.
  • An awareness of aspects of the research and innovation environment (e.g. research funding, higher education reform, science and the economy).

The contractual base for this role is our Cambridge office, however we are currently embracing hybrid working, and therefore you will have the opportunity to work from a location other than this, as agreed with your line manager. Applicants should be aware that there is an expectation that employees will attend the offices as needed for their role.
