The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) has two great opportunities for News and Media Executives to join us on a temporary twelve-month basis.

Who are we?

Chemistry is at the centre of everything you can see, smell, touch and taste. Whether studying the chemistry of life, or developing the advanced science behind modern technology, chemical scientists use their expertise to improve our health, our environment and our daily lives. Collaboration is essential. At the Royal Society of Chemistry, we connect scientists with each other and society as a whole, so they can do their best work and make discoveries and innovation happen.

We publish new research. We develop, recognise and celebrate professional capabilities. We bring people together to spark new ideas and new partnerships. We support teachers to inspire future generations of scientists. And we speak up to influence the people making decisions that affect us all. We are a catalyst for the chemistry that enriches our world.

What does our team do?

We have an exceptional diversity of audiences – from schoolchildren to scientists to politicians and the public – and our work includes activities focused on our role as a professional body (supporting members and upholding standards), a publisher (through journals, books and databases), and as the voice of the chemical science community (campaigning to influence policies to make the world a better place).

Our traditional and social media presence must act as an international shop window for the organisation, its products, services and work, attracting attention, inspiring involvement and creating the desire to take action among all our audiences, proactively managing and enhancing our organisational reputation.

Who are we looking for?

We want you to use your proven skills to play a key role in the Royal Society of Chemistry’s award-winning communications team, helping to maximise our campaigns and community communications, across crucial themes of sustainability, inclusion and diversity and scientific innovation and discovery. We work with a range of internal and external stakeholders to continue our track record of securing high profile coverage in national and international media.

We want talented people looking to build their career in communications to bring creativity, ideas and enthusiasm to hugely varied projects across our communications channels, using digital, written, journalistic and project management skills to make the most of every opportunity.

This role can be home-based or hybrid within the UK, with the option of spending some of your working week in our Cambridge or London offices. As an organisation we are embracing hybrid working, and homeworking/remote working within the UK could be considered for this role. Applicants should be aware that there is an expectation that employees will attend the office as required for their role.

Visit our Work For Us website to learn more about us, our Equal Opportunities Statement and Inclusive Culture Pledge.
