Job Details
As an intern you will be completing, to the required quality standards, the preparation and simple analysis of either drinking water or wastewater, soil and sludge samples for a small range of wet chemistry techniques for inorganic analysis.
A small independent project will be assigned to you to complete during your time at Wakefield. This is likely to be sustainability focused and will be supported by senior technical staff. At the completion of your project, you will present to the team on the project and its outcomes.

Hours Per Week: 37
Days Per Week: Monday to Friday, but weekend shifts are available too if preferred
Salary: £9.50 / hour
Minimum Employment: 6 weeks, but longer placements are available
Key Accountabilities
- Samples completed in compliance with quality management system and deadlines
- Adhere to Health and Safety and Company policies and procedures
- Understand customer requirements
- Work with other team members to ensure efficient flow of samples
- Disposal of samples and sample extractions
- Calibration of equipment and laboratory housekeeping
- Analysis could include UV-VIS spectroscopy, pH/EC, ion selective electrode
- Manual handling: lifting may be required up to 10kg
Ideal Candidates
To be successful in this role you will require the following competencies:
- Ability to follow instructions and procedures, verbal and written
- Good communication skills
- Basic IT skills
- Ability to plan and organise own work once trained
- Work effectively in a team
As we are a busy commercial laboratory, this internship would suit motivated, independent people. You will have to be prepared to actively ask for and seek out opportunities while you are here to get the most out of this experience. There will be 2-3 days during your internship where you will be allocated time to learn about the other departments and testing done at Wakefield, dependent on departments workloads.
