A vacancy has arisen for an IP Research Associate, within the Corporate Technology function at Innospec, Ellesmere Port.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out patent and literature searching to a high standard, including the technical interpretation of search outputs, to support:
- New product development and the patenting of new inventions
- Freedom to operate (FTO) and other IP issues relevant to the business
- Patent oppositions
- Actively contribute to the competitor IP monitoring process to support the business, including:
- Execute patent searches (as above) to provide monthly input
- Preparing for and holding monthly review meetings
- Following up actions
- Maintaining the competitor IP database
- Assume overall responsibility for the process within 1 – 2 years
- Maintain Innospec’s patent and trademark databases
- Maintain patent watch lists in EPO and USPTO and provide periodic status reports on watched patents
- As directed by the Global IP Lead undertake activities to support the filing and prosecution of patent and trademark applications, and their maintenance after grant
Minimum qualifications and qualities:
Essential:
- Science degree, with high organic chemistry content
- Demonstrable knowledge of, and interest in patents and IP
- Excellent attention to detail and time management skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels of the business
- Excellent IT skills to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Desirable:
- Experience of working in chemical R&D or similar environment
- Experience of the patent filing process, for example as an inventor
- Experience with publicly available or subscription patent search databases
- Foreign language skills
- At least 3 months’ work experience in an IP role
