The company supplies a range of advanced functionalised materials for precious metal recovery and pharmaceutical and speciality chemical purification. PhosphonicS focuses on delivering sustainable and high value solutions to its customers, working closely with a range of multinational companies on projects from laboratory scale right through to full scale production applications. A position for a Team Leader has been newly created to help with the management and delivery of client projects and company research projects. 

Role and Responsibilities

The role is positioned between the technical team and the CTO and you will be managing a small team of scientists as well as undertaking practical lab work.  The principal responsibilities of the role include:

  • Leading a team of scientists, setting project objectives and monitoring delivery
  • Managing the team’s performance, setting individual objectives, supporting career development and monitoring performance
  • Contributing to the design of new scavengers, finding solutions to existing technical problems and carry out some synthetic projects
  • Presenting summary data, key findings and conclusions to the company’s senior management and clients, preparing reports and other technical documents
  • Contributing to the preparation of patents and journal articles
  • Providing scientific input across a range of projects and helping to develop sustainable metal recovery solutions
  • Taking part in other company projects and initiatives as required

Skills, Experience and Competencies

We are seeking an enthusiastic, organised, and dedicated individual with great communication skills.  The successful candidate will be eligible to work full time in the UK and is expected to have the following:

  • A good BSc and PhD in chemistry with a minimum of 8 years’ experience in an industrial research lab with a focus on synthesis, scale-up an advantage
  • Experience of supervising within a technical team with a proven ability to lead, influence and motivate staff
  • Experience in project management with a delivery focus
  • Experience in designing and synthesising target molecules
  • Knowledge and experience of managing safety in a laboratory setting
  • Good organisational and time-management skills, aligned with strong problem solving and analytical thinking and an eye for detail
