Job Details
The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) seeks an Education Policy Specialist to join us on a temporary (18 months) full-time (35 hours per week) basis.
As an Education Policy Specialist for the Royal Society of Chemistry, you will work with teams across the organisation to help influence education policy in the UK and Ireland. This includes community engagement and research to develop policy positions, as well as dissemination of our views to policy makers and other stakeholders. You will also engage with other staff, contractors and with partner organisations to influence education policy and will help construct and monitor budgets for the projects that you manage.
Your responsibilities will focus on:
- Monitoring and keeping up-to-date with developments in education and helping the RSC react to new and proposed developments.
- Compiling, processing and analysing information relating to aspects of education policy.
- Drafting consultation and inquiry responses as well as other policy influencing documents.
- Organising meetings and workshops on aspects of education policy, preparing supporting materials, recording meeting proceedings and assisting in implementing decisions.
- Working closely with other RSC team members and colleagues, along with members of our boards and committees to further our voice and influence work.
- Writing position statements aimed at progressing the RSC’s strategic activities relating to education.
- Managing external advisors, agencies, and contractors as part of particular projects.
- Acting as an ambassador for the RSC, building and maintaining links and collaborating with other organisations to develop education policy and resources.
- Playing an active role in supporting and collaborating with colleagues across the RSC, including contributing to the development of strategic plans and objectives.
- Undertaking other relevant activities as appropriate.
We are looking for:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally with a sound knowledge of chemistry. Good knowledge of one or more of; primary, secondary, tertiary or vocational education policy and practise in the UK.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including a proven ability to write effectively for different audiences.
- Proven project management skills, including the ability to plan and prioritise work.
- Creativity and the ability to generate ideas.
- Experience of working in a policy and/or education related role is desirable.
- Experience of conducting or commissioning policy or education research is desirable.

The contractual base for this role is our Cambridge or London office, however we are currently embracing hybrid working, and therefore you will have the opportunity to work from a location other than this, as agreed with your line manager. Applicants should be aware that there is an expectation that employees will attend the offices as needed for their role. This role will require some travel throughout the UK and Ireland, which may require occasional weekend and non-core working hours.
