We are currently looking for a Upstream Process Development Senior Scientist to join a leading Cell and Gene Therapy company based in the Bristol area that are focused on collaborating with the UK leaders in ATMPs to support Process Development. As the Upstream Process Development Senior Scientist you will be responsible for leading projects related to Viral Vector Upstream Process Development with a focus on Cell Culture and Bioreactor Process development and optimisation.

This opportunity will suit an experienced Upstream Process Development Scientist looking to gain more leadership and responsibility while also developing further as a Subject Matter expert in the area of Viral Vector process development.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your duties as the Upstream Process Development Senior Scientist will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. You will be responsible for performing process development using shake flasks and bioreactors, optimisation of media and feed strategies, cell counts, viability and cell culture.

2. It will be your responsibility to interact with customers as a technical specialist and lead on a range of projects related to collaborator projects.

3. You will support the team leader with junior staff supervision and training while also being offered the opportunity to develop your project and line management skills through internal and external training courses.

4. As the Upstream Process Development Senior Scientist, you will work closely with the Scientists in Analytical Development and Downstream Process Development, and may be cross-trained in these areas to support the wider team.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Upstream Process Development Senior Scientist we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. Relevant degree in a biological science subject (e.g Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Biotechnology, etc.). A PhD in Biochemical or Chemical Engineering is desired but not required.

2. Proven biopharmaceutical industry experience in a process development setting, working with cell culturing techniques and operating bioreactors is essential.

3. A working knowledge and practical experience with working independently on projects and developing new processes will be highly beneficial. Knowledge of GMP and manufacturing activities will benefit your application.
