AWE are currently recruiting for a Material Modeller within the Explosives Materials and Initiation Science Group.

Materials Modeller
Location: Reading /Basingstoke area
Salary: £25,850 - £35,000 (dependent on skills and experience)

We would love to hear from someone with expertise in numerical modelling (particularly thermal and/or mechanical impact), to assist with modelling safety scenarios involving explosive materials. Ideally you will have experience applying Multiphysics codes (such as LS-DYNA, Ansys, or comparable tools) however, this is not critical.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Apply modelling tools to investigate and understand safety scenarios involving explosive materials
Inform and engage with technical projects, programmes and trials
Identify and rectify problems in analyses and processes, and/or know when to seek assistance where needed in rectifying them
Engage with relevant internal and external stakeholders, including the US National Laboratories
Maintain and develop modelling tools, techniques capabilities
Maintain and develop knowledge in energetic systems and materials modelling and share best practice with colleagues
Whilst not to be considered a checklist, we would welcome candidates to apply who can demonstrate:
Qualifications and credit framework (QCF) Level 3, or equivalent level of knowledge gained through other qualifications such as a degree and/or experience in a STEM subject area
Experience or knowledge of numerical modelling
Good decision making and problem-solving abilities in a technical environment
Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
Ability to work in a collaborative position with colleagues of various technical backgrounds
Knowledge of characterisation, processing and handling of materials, chemicals or scientific equipment is also desirable but not essential
Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to work in designated areas.
