Faculty Position in Battery Materials at the Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL)    and the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa)

The School of Engineering at EPFL and Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology invite applications for a faculty position at all levels for professor in Battery Materials.

We seek top-level candidates whose research program addresses the need for novel or alternative materials and technologies for the batteries of the future to find solutions for renewable energy storage. Research areas of interest include, but are not restricted to, novel materials for battery components, (from anode/cathode, to electrolyte or other components), novel battery concepts, (developing innovative approaches for energy storage), and advanced battery characterization (including operando techniques).
Research expertise in the areas of manufacturing and operation/ageing, life-cycle conscious design and recycling of battery materials is of additional interest.

EPFL and Empa fosters interdisciplinary research and is committed to lead technological advances and translating innovation into new solutions. We anticipate that the new faculty member will be able to build scientific interactions with the relevant research groups in the field of battery research in Switzerland and in Europe, cooperation with industrial partners. A successful candidate should follow interdisciplinary approaches and contribute to the strategic battery initiatives in Switzerland and Europe. Commitment to open science and data dissemination will be positively valued.

The successful candidate will be offered an appointment in one of the institutes in the School of Engineering, based on expertise and teaching focus. She/he will operate in state-of-the-art labs at the Empa campus in Dübendorf and will teach at EPFL. We seek candidates with an outstanding research record, a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels
