The VILLUM center on Dynamic Crystallography at the Department of Chemistry, Aarhus University, is seeking candidates for a post-doctoral position within the field of nanoparticle electrocatalysis. The position is for two years. In case further external funding is secured within the academic area the candidate is assessed obviously qualified for, an extension is possible for up to a total maximum of 4 years of employment as a postdoc.

The place of work is Department of Chemistry, Langelandsgade 140, 8000 Aarhus C, Denmark.

The center has strong activities on nanoparticle catalysis and we have developed novel synthesis routes e.g. for high entropy alloy nanoparticles, bimetallic catalysts, and multi-metal oxides, which all show excellent properties e.g. for water splitting reactions. The laboratory has state of the art equipment for electrocatalytic measurements. The postdoc position is aimed at applying nanoparticle materials in electrocatalytic processes as well as continuous development of the experimental facilities for catalytic characterization. Candidates must have a strong background in materials chemistry and electrocatalysis.

The starting date is expected to be January 1,  2022 or as soon as possible

The successful candidate will be involved in materials research in collaboration with other members of the Villum center on Dynamic Crystallography. The candidate must have a PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering or materials science. The Department of Chemistry at Aarhus University ( is one of the leading European chemistry departments with a broad research program. It has a permanent staff of ~35 full and associate professors, a support-staff of ~30 people, ~150 PhD-students and postdocs and around 500 students. The VILLUM center is affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO) ( as well as the Aarhus Center for Integrated Materials Research (iMAT) ( iMAT integrates a diverse range of basic and applied materials research areas across departments and centers and thereby strongly contribute to solving some of the Grand Challenges of modern society.

Application procedure

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range

Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
