The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) seeks an Education Coordinator to support the retention and development of teachers of chemistry and support teachers to deliver an infused curricular approach in Ireland.

The RSC is the largest non-government supporter of chemistry education in the UK, and our activities encompass formal and informal education and engagement from primary to post-primary science in schools, through to preparing for your next career move.

We believe that everyone should have access to a high-quality chemistry education which is engaging, inspiring and relevant. We invest in a number of projects and services to support chemistry teaching throughout the UK and Ireland.

As an Education Coordinator for the Royal Society of Chemistry, you will work with schools to increase teacher access to, and engagement with, our products and services. You will also seek to influence and engage members to act as advocates for chemistry, showcasing best practice in school engagement and public engagement activities within our network of local members.

You will:

  • Build successful relationships with schools and teachers of chemistry within those schools.
  • Understand the needs of individual teachers and schools in their area.
  • Advise teachers and schools in utilising our range of products and services to support their teaching.
  • Organise opportunities for RSC members to engage with public engagement activities.
  • Provide advice to our local members on best practice for school’s engagement and public engagement activities.

We are looking for:

Essential:

  • A degree in science, preferably in the chemical sciences, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Evidence of working with schools, ideally with a teaching qualification and an understanding of customer requirements, including those of post-primary teachers of chemistry, primary school teachers; FE and HE academics.
  • Good communication skills, team working skills, organisational skills, presentation skills and the ability to work independently and be able to adapt to new circumstances.
  • Experience of managing small to medium events and stakeholder relationship management.
  • Experience of supporting and creating professional development opportunities for adults.

Desirable:

  • Good project management skills and experience with data analysis skills and IT systems literate.
  • Strong understanding of the Northern Ireland Curriculum and Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 chemistry/science.

This opportunity is available on a permanent full-time (35-hour week), home-based within Northern Ireland basis and will in the future require travel throughout the island of Ireland. This may involve weekends and non-core working hours.

At the Royal Society of Chemistry, we support development and offer excellent benefits.
