The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is a not-for-profit organisation with a thriving international community of over 50,000 members, an internationally-renowned publisher of high-quality chemical science knowledge and the professional body for chemists in the UK, with a reputation as an influential champion for the chemical sciences. Our purpose is to help the chemical science community make the world a better place.

With our new 2021-25 strategy, our Programme Manager, Science will play a crucial role in supporting our Science Divisions and will work closely with Heads of Chemistry UK and the wider chemistry community to develop strong relationships, to enhance links between our networks and to develop projects to further the interests of the chemical sciences in higher education and research. You will work with colleagues across the Royal Society of Chemistry, as well as in partnership with external stakeholders such as funding bodies and sister societies, with c. £50K budgetary responsibility.

We are looking for:

  • PhD in chemistry or related sciences or equivalent (or equivalent gained, for example, through working in science or science-related project management, publishing or community engagement).
  • Experience of working on complex projects involving multiple stakeholders and / or able to balance and prioritise across multiple projects, tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders across career stages and from different sectors using a range of written and oral communication channels to engage and influence effectively.
  • Interest or awareness of chemistry’s role in advancing science and technology and of the factors currently influencing the research and innovation environment, as well as the needs and concerns of people in the research and innovation community.
  • Initiative and ability to develop new ideas and approaches and to work collaboratively in a matrix environment.

The Royal Society of Chemistry supports development and offers great benefits. The contractual base for this role is our Cambridge office, however we are about to enter a period of piloting hybrid working, and you may be able to work from a location other than this, as agreed with your line manager. Applicants should be aware that there is an expectation that employees will attend the offices as needed for their role, and that permanent working arrangements away from the office may not be agreed in the future. The role will involve some working from home and travel within the UK (mainly to our London office).

If interested, please apply before the end of our closing date.
