The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) has an opportunity for a Senior Programme Manager, Science Awards & Grants to join us on a permanent full-time (35-hour week) basis.

As a Senior Programme Manager, Science Awards & Grants for the RSC you will oversee development, delivery and continual evolution of our prizes, awards and grants. The successful candidate will lead a small team of programme managers, programme officers and administrators. With our new 2021-25 strategy and an ambitious vision to launch new recognition schemes following our Rethinking Recognition review, this is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of recognition and research culture, and to support our community as they advance knowledge and collaborate in a changing world.  Building on our new prizes for teams and digital winner celebration, you will play a key role in our ongoing journey to modernise recognition, support collaboration and research careers.

The Royal Society of Chemistry is a not-for-profit organisation whose purpose is to advance excellence in the chemical sciences, with a thriving global community of hundreds of thousands of people who love chemistry. An internationally renowned publisher of high-quality chemical science knowledge, we are also the professional body for chemists and the biggest non-governmental investor in chemistry education in the UK, with strong links to schools, colleges, universities and industry.

We are looking for:

  • PhD in chemical or related sciences (or equivalent gained, for example, through working in science or science-related programme management, publishing or community engagement)
  • Experience managing a team
  • Experience running complex multi-stakeholder projects and programmes, with the ability to balance commitments and priorities across several programmes
  • Experience building relationships and networks, as well as developing projects and running committees involving professionals across career stages and communicating effectively with a variety of audiences and influencing people across levels and sectors
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team in a matrix environment, including leading without authority and developing new ideas and approaches
  • Understanding of the UK and global research and innovation environment, and of the role that recognition and grants play in the science and technology ecosystem

The contractual base for this role is our Cambridge office, however we are about to enter a period of piloting hybrid working, and you may be able to work from a location other than this, as agreed with your line manager. Applicants should be aware that there is an expectation that employees will attend the offices as needed for their role, and that permanent working arrangements away from the office may not be agreed in the future. The role will involve some working from home and travel within the UK (mainly to our London office).

The Royal Society of Chemistry supports development and offers great benefits.

If interested, please apply before the end of our closing date.
