CK Group are recruiting for a Plant Chemist to join a manufacturing company in the coatings industry at their site based in Colchester on a permanent basis. This role offers a salary of £30-40,000 depending on experience.

The Company:
Our client is offers a comprehensive portfolio of specialty films, foils, laminates and thermal transfer ribbons (TTR) that are used to mark, decorate, and enhance a wide variety of consumer and industrial products. In addition, they produce secure holograms, laminates and overlay solutions that help to authenticate and protect travel documents, personal IDs and other official documents around the world.

Plant Chemist Role:
Your main duties will be:
  • Lab formulation work to address product issues and product requirements.
  • Pilot scale coating work to address product issues and product requirements.
  • Full scale plant trials to address product issues and product requirements.
  • Testing material from all of the above.
  • Researching available raw materials and bring in new materials for testing.
  • Maintaining SDS and other appropriate information of all new materials.
  • Maintaining product compliance to International and European regulations associated with the use of hazardous chemicals e.g. REACH, CLP.
  • nning and maintaining a range of test equipment.
  • All work clearly written up within appropriate databases.
  • Providing technical support to operations team when necessary.
  • Providing technical support to sales team when necessary, including high quality written reports and/or samples appropriate for external use and attendance at customer meetings if required.
  • Maintaining lab areas to a high standard, including all aspects of safety e.g. COSHH records.

Your Background:
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
  • A degree in Chemistry or related science discipline is essential.
  • Experience in formulation development and/or polymer science.
  • Experience in project management preferred but not essential.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Able to work individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
