Materials and Characterisation Scientist

Location: Reading/ Basingstoke area

Working within the Materials and Analytical Sciences (MAS) Sub-Function, this role will give you the opportunity to apply your expertise analysing the physical and chemical properties of materials in a wide range of environments, and work alongside materials modellers to develop life prediction models.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with hands-on experience of working in a laboratory environment. The following skills and experience are desirable:
  • Degree-level knowledge in a relevant scientific discipline
  • Experience of working with materials, including polymers, ceramics and metals
  • Experience of working in a laboratory environment and an understanding of safety assessments, e.g. COSHH
  • Experience in a range of analytical techniques, e.g. FTIR / Raman spectroscopy;
  • Awareness of pressurised gas systems and Swagelok design;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
