Job Details

The Royal Society of Chemistry seeks a Policy Advisor to join us on a permanent full-time or part-time (28 – 35 hours per week) basis.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on topical policy issues and commission cutting-edge policy research to connect the world of science and advance chemical knowledge for a better future.

As a Policy Advisor for the Royal Society of Chemistry you will manage commissioned research, analyse a range of evidence, manage relationships, develop and communicate policies. You will develop good relationships with like-minded organisations and decision-makers in Governments and parliaments, working closely with colleagues in the RSC. You will work on some of the hottest topics such as SME growth, skills, chemistry and economic policy, future trade agreements and science funding post-COVID.

The Royal Society of Chemistry is a not-for-profit organisation with a thriving international community of over 50,000 members in over 100 countries. We are an internationally renowned publisher of high quality chemical science knowledge and the professional body for chemists in the UK, with a reputation as an influential champion for the chemical sciences.

Our science policy activities cover issues that affect chemistry research and innovation and areas such as regulation and environment where it is crucial that policy is informed by scientific evidence.

We are looking for someone who understands how the UK Government, European Union and other key decision-makers develop policies affecting science and the practice of chemistry.

The Royal Society of Chemistry will support your development and reward your contribution with competitive benefits, including excellent training, employee empowerment and the chance to make a positive difference to society.

Location could be negotiated around being home-based or based at either our Cambridge or London office, provided you can efficiently and frequently travel within the UK, mainly in London. The role will involve some weekend and evening work, with scope for flexible working (particularly around start and finish times and some home-working) to meet business needs.

If you are an excellent communicator who quickly grasps both the big picture and the detail of a range of science policy issues affecting chemistry and can respond to new problems by effectively collaborating with others to solve them, we would love to hear from you.
