About the role and our team

We are looking for a Quality Manager to join our small team in the Isle of Man Government Laboratory.

The Government Laboratory provides an essential chemical and microbiological analytical service to the Government and the private sector, ensuring that the Island's drinking water and food are safe and of the required quality, and that the environment is clean and free from pollution.

The quality of the Laboratory's work is paramount, and our quality system holds third party accreditation to ISO 17025, the international quality standard for laboratories, providing visible assurance of quality while also ensuring that results are recognised in other arenas.

As Quality Manager you will play a pivotal role in the operation of the Laboratory, taking responsibility for the quality of the data produced, while managing the essential administrative functions and the customer interface. You will also issue reports on samples that have been tested, subject to guidance by the Government Analyst.

From time to time you will deputise for the Government Analyst in their absence, taking full responsibility for the work of the Laboratory.

This is a high-level post with significant responsibility beyond just assurance of quality: before applying please ensure that you read the person specification and that you meet all the essential requirements.

What can this role offer me?

This is a wide-ranging role, and there are always variations and additions that adds interest and create technical challenges, ensuring that there is never a dull day.

You can also experience real job satisfaction, knowing that the Laboratory's work is a fundamental part of protection of the public and the environment in the Isle of Man.

If working flexibly is important to you, you’ll be happy to know we operate a flexi-time system making it easier to reclaim any additional hours worked and to fit your other commitments around your work life.

If you are relocating or returning to the Island, you can benefit from the Insurance Holiday Scheme, which allows you to apply for a refund on your NI contributions for your 1st year of living here. To see how this scheme could benefit you, and to find out more about relocating to the Isle of Man, visit www.locate.im

About the Island and relocating

A self-Governing Crown Dependency, not part of the UK, the Isle of Man is unique in its own special way. With low crime rates and great education, this is a fantastic place to bring up children.

Here you can enjoy a fantastic quality of life, and an excellent work-life balance! There are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities; so if you like walking, mountain biking, sailing or kayaking, you’ll have lots of places to explore!

With two hospitals and strong links to Liverpool hospitals, you are well covered. Our Island location has proved highly beneficial during the COVID-19 outbreak over the past year or so, with the ability to tightly control our borders enabling us to have remained COVID-free and able to conduct normal lives and businesses much of the time, with just three short periods of lockdown.

There are also lots of great cafes, bars and restaurants, and you can enjoy the Island’s real sense of community. The island is well connected to the UK, and you’ll also benefit from low income tax rates (20% maximum rate).

A relocation package of up to £7,500 based on receipts is available for this role.
