The Company
Almac Discovery is a research-driven drug discovery company dedicated to the development of novel and innovative approaches to the treatment of diseases of high unmet need (including oncology, muscle-wasting and neurodegeneration) by applying a target-class approach. Our business model is to develop preclinical stage assets which are then licensed to pharmaceutical/biotechnology partners for further development. We also look to collaborate with partners to apply our medicinal chemistry and translational biology expertise to targets of mutual interest. Key research themes include deubiquitinase enzymes (DUBs) and protein drug conjugates

Almac Discovery is one of seven business units within the Almac Group of companies and is located on the Queen’s University Belfast life sciences campus, close to two major hospitals and the Northern Ireland Cancer Centre. We have additional laboratories in Edinburgh (Protein Therapeutics) and offices in Manchester (Bioinformatics).

The Role
Working as an integral member of the Almac Discovery Chemistry team based in Belfast, you will be tasked with creatively and efficiently designing, synthesising and characterising key target compounds with suitable drug-like properties for biological testing. Working on challenging targets from hit-generation through to candidate selection, the role will involve independent design of fit-for-purpose synthetic routes to target molecules that will allow rapid interpretation of project SAR and ultimately will drive projects forward.

The position will suit a self-sufficient and self-motivated synthetic chemist with excellent communication skills and teamworking ability. More broadly, you will proactively work in collaboration with colleagues across scientific disciplines with the aim of creating much needed first-in-class medicines of the future.

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package as well as the chance to work for an innovative R&D company within the global Almac Group.  As well as excellent training and development opportunities, we offer real potential for career progression and much more!
