Albotherm is a start-up company from the University of Bristol, with the aim of combating climate change with our smart-coating technologies, primarily for the agriculture market. We design and manufacture products that passively control light transmission to regulate temperatures of surfaces and structures. We are currently looking for a formulation chemist to join our new and expanding team.

About the Role:

The role will involve laboratory-based research including synthesis and formulation design, but will have a strong focus on product development and commercialisation. You will be working closely with our CTO on product design and managing research relations with our wider subcontracting team, building strong cross-functional working relationships.

We are looking for an experienced and driven formulation chemist with a passion for novel science and commercialisation, who will be involved in the development of our coatings, as well as testing new materials. The formulation chemist will oversee coating development projects, taking them from initial product concept to a finished ready-for-market product.

The role will include laboratory work to formulate and test our developed technologies, as well as manage quality control. The candidate will need to be able to quickly trouble-shoot problems and resolve issues head-on during the product development cycle. As part of our focused team, the candidate will be heavily involved in key research and commercial discussions.

Skills:

• 3 years+ experience working as a formulation chemist, with a focus on industrial paints and coatings
• Experience in the coatings and paint industry
• Strong background in polymer and materials science
• High level of communication skills and ability to work across teams
• Experience with protection or patenting of new technologies
• Strong work ethic and on time delivery
• Able to forge strong working relationships across team members, customers, and partners
• Experience with quality control protocols and best practice
