The Blood Sciences department of University Hospitals Leicester NHS Trust is wishing to recruit two suitably qualified and experienced Analytical Chemists to be deployed in the Specialist Chemistry section of the laboratory.

This is a new role within the department and will provide technical expertise for the development and delivery of the busy Forensic Toxicology service provided by the department. The service processes approximately 400 cases per month serving HM Coroners across England and Wales. The laboratory is also actively involved in research and development regularly publishing in the peer reviewed literature alone and in collaboration with local and national Universities.

The successful candidates will be involved in the day to day delivery of the service as well as training junior staff. A significant component of the role will be the development and validation of methods.

For the role you should be educated to post graduate level in Analytical Chemistry or related subject and have postgraduate experience with chromatography systems such as LC-MS/MS, LC-QToF and GC-FID. Expertise in chemical analysis of toxicology or clinical samples is desirable in addition to experience of working in a UKAS accredited laboratory.

You will need to be enthusiastic and highly motivated, computer literate, have a high level of interpersonal, organisational and communication skills, be able to supervise and motivate staff, demonstrate a strong commitment to CPD and be familiar with working to UKAS standards.

Our staff are actively encouraged to undertake further training and development and, if interested, undertake roles in the laboratory quality, training, and health and safety management systems

The department operates across three hospital sites in Leicester. The primary base will be the Leicester Royal Infirmary however there may be a requirement to work on other sites. There will be an element of weekend and evening working in line with service provision.
