About Kalium Health

We are working to transform the lives of millions of people worldwide with kidney or heart disease, and reduce total healthcare costs, by enabling blood electrolyte monitoring by anyone, anywhere.

We have an existing portfolio of IP based around our platform sensing technology and our focus is on taking this and other new technologies from the lab bench through to product design, manufacturing, medical device regulatory approval and global sales.

We are a venture-backed company with exciting plans for growth. We are developing new technologies for blood electrolyte monitoring and taking them from the lab bench through to product design, manufacturing, medical device regulatory approval and sale worldwide.

Our team brings together many decades of clinical, scientific, engineering and commercial experience and we are looking for a talented and motivated intern who shares our vision of improving healthcare worldwide.

Kalium Health is committed to supporting and promoting equality and diversity and to creating an inclusive working environment.

The role

We are looking for an exceptional chemistry graduate, either recent (within the last three years) or returning from a career break, who can help to develop and test novel sensors that can be integrated into our medical devices.

We are looking for someone with the skills and experience to:

  • Make up polymer formulations to standard procedures
  • Optimise chemical formulations through structured experimentation and testing
  • Carry out electrochemical testing of sensors using benchtop instrumentation
  • Analyse data (including use of statistics)
  • Communicate results (written and verbally) to the project team

You must have an undergraduate degree and preferably a post-graduate degree in a relevant chemical sciences discipline such as organic chemistry, electrochemistry or rheology. You should be familiar with general laboratory procedures and safe working practices and have a proven track record of working independently.

This role will require you to carry out occasional testing with blood samples in accordance with our safety procedures.

You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team including scientists, engineers and technicians and clear verbal and written communication will be necessary. We are looking for you to demonstrate a methodical approach to problem-solving with clear objectives in mind.

You will be part of an exciting journey as we develop new medical devices and this role will give you exposure to the early stage of the product development lifecycle.

There is the potential for you to move into a permanent role with us following completion of the internship.

This internship is funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Our offer

  • 3 month fixed term beginning 1 March 2021.
  • Pay of £9.50 per hour for 37.5 hours per week (equivalent to £18,525 per year).
  • Paid leave of 8.5 days including public holidays.
  • Primarily lab-based role with occasional remote working.
  • Flexible working policy based around core hours.
  • Light and spacious working environment on Cambridge Biomedical Campus with on-site cafe.
  • On-campus sports and fitness centre with swimming pool.
  • Covered cycle parking.
  • Good access to bus networks and 1.5 miles from Cambridge rail station.
