AWE are recruiting for a B2 and a C1 Consequence Assessment Analyst on a permanent basis. The roles exercise an improved capability in understanding nuclear warhead design, performance, effectiveness and national nuclear security through theoretical research, modelling and assessment.



Location: Reading/Basingstoke area



Package: £34,000 - £45,000pa (dependant on suitability and level of experience). The Systems Assessments Group (SAG) is a multi-discipline group, providing mission effectiveness and weapons effects assessments to AWE and our government stakeholders. We contribute a range of capabilities in support of the UK's national nuclear security and treaty verification requirements.



The Consequence Assessment Team within SAG is a broad domain encompassing radiation transport, atmospheric physics and nuclear physics, mathematical algorithm development, and software model development. The successful candidate will have qualifications and experience in more than one of these disciplines.



The Role will consist of:

Planning and delivery of technical assessments using appropriate methodologies.

Planning, development and validation of theoretical models or software codes.

Engaging with communities across AWE.

Contributing to interactions with international partners and external stakeholders in their field.

Participate in Review, Learn and Improve activities with view to leading activities in their domain.



An ideal candidate will have:

A Degree in Physics, Maths, or an equivalent STEM-based discipline, equivalent NQF level 6 qualification or equivalent experience.

A specialism in one or more of the following areas: nuclear physics, atmospheric physics, radiation transport, Monte Carlo modelling, computational fluid dynamics or using bespoke software to complete detailed analyses.

Code development and scientific programming experience using languages such as Fortran, C++ or Python.

A methodical approach in undertaking technical research and conducting technical assessments to draw sound scientific conclusions.

Clear and concise communication with strong influential skills.

Ability to prioritise a varied workload for self to ensure timely delivery.



All candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and to work in designated areas of site.
