Hazard Safety Lead - Process Chemistry

Are you an experienced Hazard Safety / Process Chemist looking for a new exciting job opportunity?

We are currently looking for a Hazard Safety Lead to join a leading pharmaceutical company based in Northern Ireland.

As the Hazard Safety Lead you will be performing hands on calorimetry experimentation and evaluate the data obtained, giving guidance to the chemistry team on the design of the process where hazards are detected.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your duties as the Hazard Safety Lead will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. You will perform and interpret calorimetry experiments for processes intended for scale up and document all hazard assessment work fully and accurately in the Hazard Evaluation Report template with conclusions and recommendations for all the stages of the process.

2. You will also discuss the hazard evaluation with the project chemist, team leader, HSE department, production and engineering teams as and when necessary. You will be working closely with the engineering / manufacturing department to ensure an appropriate basis of safety is in place prior to scale up in the kilo lab or manufacturing plant.

3. As the Hazard Safety Lead, you will plan all safety assessment and reports to ensure the results are available in a timely manner and additionally highlight where any additional data needs to be obtained that is outside of the company's capabilities and manage the outsourcing of such work.

4. The Hazard Safety Lead will also act as a support for the project chemist during COHA's /operability meetings for the kilo laboratory or manufacturing plant operations by ensuring clear communication of safety concerns.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Hazard Safety Lead we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. Relevant degree in a chemistry related discipline. A postgraduate qualification would be desirable.

2. Proven industry experience in performing and interpreting calorimetric data as well as experience of scale up of chemical processes is essential for this role. You will also need to have good knowledge and understanding of calorimetry and of organic synthesis.

3. Experience working in a process development group is highly advantageous.
