We are currently looking for a Upstream Processing Scientist to join an international clinical and commercial manufacturer of biologics based in the Staffordshire area. As the Upstream Processing Scientist you will be responsible for microbial fermentation and cell bank generation, as well as assisting in the transfer/development of new processes within the team and across the business.


Your duties as the Upstream Processing Scientist will be varied, however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. You will work in an aseptic environment to perform microbial fermentation (shake flask and bioreactor) and microbial cell banking to support commercial contracts, gene therapy viral vector development and Innovate UK grants.

2. Assist in the transfer/development of new processes, techniques or unit operations within the team and into GMP across the business functions.

3. Generation of relevant documents and technical reports, including Standard Operating Procedures and batch reports.


To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Upstream Processing Scientist we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. BSc (or equivalent) in a science subject such as biochemistry, biotechnology, microbial technology, or biochemical engineering. A PhD within the area of expertise is advantageous but not essential.

2. Proven experience in an appropriate research discipline.

3. A working knowledge and practical experience with microbial fermentation is essential. Experience with mammalian cell culturing may also be beneficial but is not essential.
