Applications are invited for an Analytical Suite Manager, Teaching Laboratories, Department of Chemistry. This new role will mainly focus on the management of the Analytical Suite, with the successful applicant also providing assistance to the Chemistry Teaching Laboratory team and teaching within the laboratories.

As a manager you will be responsible for the smooth running of the Analytical Suite on a daily basis.  Your duties will include managing staff numbers; ensuring health and safety requirements are met; preparing written instructions; developing the use of the Analytical Suite; managing instrument usage and training; maintaining and improving expertise in analytical chemistry. You will also contribute to the creation and modification of courses, overseen by the Chemistry Practical Course Committee and contribute to the development, planning and implementation of a high quality curriculum.

The post holder will be required to teach both during and outside of term.  During term this will involve teaching undergraduate students on a daily basis with modern teaching methods, always seeking ways to improve teaching performance. You will demonstrate relevant analytical techniques and explain complex academic material. Outside of term you will develop graduate training programmes and demonstrate analytical techniques to visiting schools within established outreach activities.

You will hold a PhD in chemistry (or equivalent qualifications and/or experience) and have significant experience of using a range of analytical techniques and machines. You will be able to demonstrate the ability and teaching skills to progress the learning of high-achieving students at undergraduate level; have an innovative approach to problem-solving; have strong time-management and organisational skills; work effectively in a team and have excellent health and safety knowledge.

This is a full-time, permanent post, based in the Chemistry Teaching Laboratory, South Parks Road, Oxford. The post will be available to start from 2nd January 2020.
