We are currently looking for a Section Manager to join the Microbiology department within a leading, fast-growing life science company based in the Cambridge area. As the Section Manager - Microbiology you will be responsible for managing the work schedule of the laboratory and overseeing a team of analysts and technicians to ensure the timely delivery of projects and results to high quality standards.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your duties as the Section Manager - Microbiology will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. Organisation of the day-to-day workload within the laboratory. Motivation of analysts and technicians to maximise morale and performance. Additionally, you will mentor staff and oversee technical, quality and commercial training of new team members, complete training logs/manuals and manage key laboratory KPIs.

2. Ensure that the laboratory is maintained to strict ISO17025:2005 standards and is compliant with company Health and Safety requirements, maintaining a safe and tidy working environment. In the case of non-conformances, you will establish root cause quality investigations.

3. Ensure that all technical laboratory equipment is properly maintained. Complete technical QC checking of results to ensure work meets quality expectations, and maintain a high level of customer awareness within the team.

4. As the Section Manager - Microbiology, you will report to the Laboratory Manager and aid in directing changes within the laboratory to maintain smooth operations.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Section Manager - Microbiology we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. Relevant degree in a Life Science discipline, ideally Microbiology.

2. A working knowledge and practical experience within Microbiology in a strict ISO17025 environment.

3. Proven industry experience in team leadership, staff training and project management.
