Starting Salary £24776 - £41536, depending on experience

The Drug Discovery Unit at the CRUK Beatson Institute in Glasgow is a Cancer Research UK funded team of highly experienced scientists engaged in discovering and developing cancer drug treatments of the future.    Using state of the art screening, advanced structural biology, industry standard medicinal chemistry and complex biological modelling systems, the Drug Discovery team at the Beatson is tackling some of the most challenging targets in cancer biology today.

We are looking for a talented and motivated Medicinal Chemist who will take a central role in our drug discovery projects.  The ideal candidate should have extensive hands-on experience of synthetic organic chemistry and an understanding of medicinal chemistry design principles along with excellent problem solving skills.  Our research laboratory is equipped with state of the art equipment including, NMR spectrometers to support medicinal chemistry (Bruker AVANCE NEO 400) and for fragment screening and protein NMR (Bruker AVANCE NEO 600 with a CryoProbe) work.

As a predominantly lab-based medicinal chemist, the role requires you to develop and use your skills to design and synthesise molecules for our drug discovery projects. In addition, you should have demonstrable expertise in the practical and theoretical aspects of synthetic chemistry, with experience in synthesis, purification and analytical characterisation (LCMS & NMR), a knowledge of medicinal chemistry design principles and the influence of physicochemical properties and an understanding of related drug discovery disciplines (biophysics, structural biology, pharmacology, ADME, formulation, drug safety/toxicology, IP)

As an early career researcher, you should possess a Degree or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Biology or Medicinal Chemistry experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech or not-for-profit drug discovery setting.

You will have a passion for innovation and problem-solving and possess excellent communication skills gained from working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

In return, we offer an inspiring, supportive and multi-disciplinary environment in a state-of-the-art, purpose built laboratory, competitive salary, career average pension scheme, generous holiday allocation, relocation (where appropriate) and a collaborative working environment.
