H & V Physicist
AWE are currently recruiting for an H&V Physicist.
An opportunity has arisen within a dynamic team studying the effects of electromagnetic energy on systems. The role includes development and management of computational models to enhance existing capability within the team.
Location - Reading area
Package - subject to skills and experience
AWE offer a competitive salary, market leading contributory pension scheme, generous holiday entitlement, excellent work/life balance including a 9-day working fortnight and flexible working hours (role dependent). A salary sacrifice scheme is also available. We will consider candidates looking for full time or part time hours.
This opportunity is specifically aimed at modelling the effects of pulsed and continuous electromagnetic energy on systems and components. Existing capabilities of the team rely on commercial and in-house codes specifically designed to study these effects. The team is looking to expand capability and knowledge of the SHF and EHF bands through the development of computational models.
The role will consist primarily of implementing numerical solution techniques as well as using commercial and in-house modelling packages to analyse electromagnetic propagation and penetration into systems in the broadband and high frequency ranges.
Opportunities may also arise to assist in experimental design and execution to aid model validation.
The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of a team, be able to communicate clearly both verbally and through technical reports. In addition, it is essential that applicants possess the skills to interpret, analyse and present data in a coherent manner.
A Degree and or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics or Mathematics together with experience working in the field of computational electrodynamics and experience in the implementation of numerical modelling methods such as FDTD, FEM or TLM is desired.
A good working knowledge of a variety of computational methods and their relative merits
is also preferred as is a proficiency in Fortran, C, C++ or Python. Some experience in the use and application of commercial Electromagnetics modelling packages such as CST Microwave Studio or HFSS would also be advantageous.
Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be wiling and able to work in designated areas of site. Some UK and overseas travel maybe required.
AWE plays a crucial role in the defence of the United Kingdom, by providing and maintaining the warheads for the country's nuclear deterrent. We are a centre of scientific, engineering and technological excellence, with some of the most advanced research, design and production facilities in the world. Our unique expertise also assists the UK Government in developing and delivering a range of innovative and integrated support services, including national nuclear security and counter-terrorism solutions.
AWE is an equal opportunities employer. We value diversity and welcome applications from candidates from all backgrounds. We particularly welcome applications from sections of the community which are currently under-represented at AWE, including women, BAME and disabled people.
