Internship in Synthetic Organic Chemistry

Apex Molecular are based at Alderley Park, an established centre of chemistry and life sciences in the north west of England. Within our labs we are equipped to work from milligram to kilo scale and have high quality analytical facilities. An additional dedicated laboratory facility to work with high potency molecules expands our offering into growth areas such as hormones, opiates, prostaglandins and cytotoxic oncology small molecules associated with antibody drug conjugates (ADCs).

We have been successful in being awarded a Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Internship Grant, and are currently recruiting for a laboratory based Research Chemist Intern to work on specific customer and internal projects with our existing medicinal chemistry and contract synthesis research teams. The vacancy would suit candidates with experience in practical organic chemistry, qualified in a chemistry based subject either to PhD level or BSc/MChem level with some industry experience. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates looking to return to synthetic organic chemistry after a career break or working in related chemistry sectors. Additional experience in medicinal chemistry drug design is desirable.

The successful applicants will experience the full variety of chemistry within Apex Molecular: from custom synthesis projects on up to 20 litre scale to FTE projects synthesising milligram scale compound libraries for testing in lead identification/lead optimisation programs. They will work closely with our experienced team and communicate directly with customers to continue to deliver the levels of technical excellence and customer service we pride ourselves on.

Salary is in the range £22,000 to £29,000 depending on experience, including a contributory pension scheme and other excellent benefits. As an internship, this position is for an initial 6-month contract but we see this RSC supported initiative as an excellent way to bring in a permanent member of our team. Through the grant, free membership of the RSC for 12 months is also included.
