We are currently looking for a Research Scientist to join a growing biotechnology company based in the Lanarkshire area.

The company are an exciting and innovative spin out company and require a Research Scientist to work within a cross functional team of Engineers and technology developers to assist in the development and commercialisation of a novel diagnostic platform. Supporting the development of in vitro diagnostic products in the areas of nucleic acid testing, the successful candidate will report to the Team Lead, supporting experimental design alongside the Engineering Scientist.


In general, your role as Research Scientist will involve performing general Molecular and Biology based tasks including Assay design, DNA/ RNA extraction, PCR and Fluorescence Microscopy. You will follow and write SOPs, record and interpret results and work within the company's Quality Systems and Policies.

Your duties as the Research Scientist will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. Design of the surface chemistry for a microfluidic sample delivery and PCR amplification system.

2. Work with and assist in the resolution of substantial laboratory-related technical problems in the areas of surface chemistry design of functional surfaces for the development of nucleic based assays.

3. Provide hands on technical expertise in the design of functional surfaces for the manipulation of samples for nucleic acid purification and PCR amplification.

4. Carry out original investigations and literature searches with minimum supervision.

5. Provide comprehensive reports relating to technical problems outside the scope of available.


To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Research Scientist we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. Relevant PhD or equivalent experience within a Biosciences or Microfluidics based topic, or point-of-care assay development. In addition to this, you must be able to demonstrate a proven track record in diagnostic assays from first principles to delivery of a working system. We would expect most of your experience to be gained developing immunoassay or PCR based platforms.

2. Understand and/or have worked in the design of the chemistry of functional surfaces of microfluidic devices, especially planar surface and a good understanding of assay principles and sample delivery in point of care diagnostic devices.

3. As the company are in development stages, they will require someone with flexibility in job role and a proactive attitude towards problem solving.
