We are currently looking for a Molecular Biologist to join a growing biotechnology company based in the Lanarkshire area. The company are an exciting and innovative spin out company and require a Molecular Biologist to work within a cross functional team of Engineers and technology developers to assist in the development and commercialisation of a novel diagnostic platform. Supporting the development of in vitro diagnostic products in the areas of nucleic acid testing, the successful candidate will report to the Team Lead, supporting experimental design alongside the Engineering Scientist.


As the Molecular Biologist you will perform general molecular biology based tasks including assay design, DNA / RNA extraction, PCR and fluorescence microscopy. You will follow and write SOPs, record and interpret results and work within the company's quality systems and policies.
Your duties as the Molecular Biologist will be varied and predominantly laboratory based, however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. Perform laboratory aspects of new product and method development.
2. Perform supervised laboratory validation of new products and methods.
3. Thoroughly document laboratory work to an extent that will allow work to be analysed and replicated.
4. Deliver instrument or method training to members of the teams as required.
5. Support senior team members in the technical support including directed laboratory work for technical troubleshooting.
6. Report all activities to the Team Lead in a timely and comprehensive manner.


To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Molecular Biologist we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. Relevant PhD or equivalent experience in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or similar. In addition, you will have previous experience working within a molecular diagnostics or molecular microbiology facility. Previous experience of Infectious disease diagnostics, assay validation, handling biological samples and working with in vitro diagnostic products would be desirable.

2. Proven track record of design of molecular based assay design, specifically with practical technical expertise in PCR based assays

3. You will be expected to have in depth knowledge of molecular assays in order to provide detailed technical input to the design and development of new assays.
