The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) has an exciting opportunity for an Inclusion and Diversity Coordinator to join our team. We recognise the importance of valuing all members of our community and we believe that for the chemical sciences to prosper, they must attract, develop and retain a diverse community of talented people. Our Inclusion and Diversity team drives initiatives and sets policies that help develop a more diverse and inclusive chemistry community.  Partnerships with key organisations across Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) subjects and collaboration with academia and industry are central to our work. 

As our Inclusion and Diversity Coordinator, your responsibilities will include:

Supporting the day-to-day activities of the Inclusion and Diversity team Assisting the team and supporting our network of volunteers Providing support in organising the Inclusion and Diversity Committee meetings Administering the Inclusion and Diversity Fund and the Grants for Carers Undertaking casework for routine enquiries Supporting other community initiatives and events planned and organised by the Inclusion and Diversity team

We are looking for: 

  • Articulate communicator with experience in a customer-focussed environment
  • Excellent organisational skills and good experience of administrative tasks including filing, databases, word-processing, minute-taking, spreadsheet software and financial administration
  • Effective team player, with an empathetic approach to volunteering and diversity and a willingness to undertake knowledge gathering tasks to support member enquiries
  • An awareness of data protection and confidentiality issues
  • Able to confidently handle phone calls and email issues of a sensitive nature, demonstrating empathy, tact, diplomacy and able to relate to people from all backgrounds
  • Degree level education (desirable but not essential)

This is a permanent part-time (21 hours per week) opportunity, based at our Science Park Cambridge office, with free onsite parking and close to the guided bus and Cambridge North train station. This role also requires some flexibility in working hours to attend important events and some travel within the UK and occasional weekend and evening work may be required.
