Principal Scientist

We have an exciting opportunity available for a Principal Scientist to join an expanding life sciences company based in Edinburgh.

As the Principal Scientist you will be responsible for significantly contributing to the scientific direction of the company as they continue to expand immuno-oncology operations. The role requires a strong communicator, who is an innovative and strategic thinker and who will relish combining aspects of project management, R&D and business development.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your duties as the Principal Scientist will be varied however an overview of the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. Project Management - You will be the prime point of contact for ongoing client relationships. This will include interrogating scientific literature to understand more about relevant therapeutic targets in the area. You will implement quality control steps to ensure projects are conducted and delivered according to the standards expected, developing new or updating SOPs as required.

2. Staff Management - You will have responsibility for scientific overview of senior scientists, providing guidance to the whole team, as well as line management of a number of scientific staff.

3. R&D - Taking a lead role in the design and validation of new assays. You will provide training in the production and maintenance of primary cell cultures (eg. Monocyte, Macrophages, DCs and T cells) as well as various tumour cell lines as required, however on the whole this role will not be laboratory based

4. Business Development - Taking an active role in nurturing new and expanding existing client relationships. Presenting the company's portfolio of service offerings in an authoritative and engaging manner, in face-to-face meetings and by teleconferencing. Attending scientific and trade conferences to deliver oral presentations and posters and to assist in fielding enquiries to capture new commercial opportunities

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Principal Scientist we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. PhD in a relevant life sciences subject, plus significant post-doctoral experience. Experience within the field of immunology, molecular biology or oncology would be preferred.

2. Evidence of a strong conceptual understanding of the field (immunology, oncology, immuno-oncology, cell biology). Previous experience of Pharma/Biotech drug discovery or contract research is desirable.

3. Despite this role being mainly office based, you will be required to demonstrate laboratory experience and a strong cellular and molecular skill-set.

4. Supervisory or line management experience desirable.
