Senior Chemist - Biotechnology

Are you an experienced Chemist looking for an exciting new opportunity?

We are currently looking for a Senior / Leading Chemist to join an expanding biotechnology company based in the Argyll And Bute area.

As the Senior Chemist you will be responsible for undertaking responsibilities in setting up the new industrial laboratory facility and duties within quality control, production, formulation and product development.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your duties as the Senior Chemist will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. You will be responsible for the quality control during method upscale and transfer within the laboratory as the company steps up to pilot-scale production. You will be responsible for generating quality control parameters into a Quality Management System.

2. You will also be required, to take a biological approach to the company's biotechnology process and carry out research and development of relevant chemical analysis for quality control at different steps during production. As the senior chemist, you may also be required to have an input in method development or process optimisation.

3. As the Senior Chemist within a smaller biotechnology company, you will be responsible for documentation and report writing. This includes writing progress reports, preparing results for the management team, as well as developing contacts and research collaborations within industry and academia.

4. Essentially, the Senior Chemist will be expected to manage a multi-disciplinary role within a small company and embrace the challenges of working in a fast-paced changing environment. You will be working in a small team whilst gradually growing a team of your own.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Senior Chemist we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. You will need to have a good academic background and degree in either Chemistry, Materials Science or Polymer Chemistry. Additionally, it is essential that the successful Senior chemist has experience working in an industrial setting (GLP, GMP, ISO, UKAS).

2. You will need to have experience in biopolymer characterisation and experience in a wide range of synthetic skills (e.g. experimental design, wet chemistry, purification, etc).

3. Knowledge of materials characterisation techniques, biopolymers and their chemistry / characterisation will be advantageous.
